Laragh Utd and Corlough met on Friday night last in Corlough in what turned out to be a very one sided event. Despite the bad weather pitch conditions were good but Laragh played with a very strong wind in the first half which influenced play throughout the game. The opening play of the game seen a high ball won by Laraghs full forward Gerry Murray who laid off to Colin Mc Kenna who found Paddy Rudden running through to score a great point to open the game. Laraghs Shane O Rourke playing in midfield overturned Corloughs first attempt of attack who played a long ball in to Ruairí Power whom was fouled and quickly converted the free to take his first point of the game. Conal Donohoe was next up for the Laragh side and scored what turned out to be the score of the match he took a fantastic point kicked on the run from outside the 45m line. Corlough worked hard for the next few attacks but kicking against the strong wind made scoring almost impossible. Donohoe again for Laragh took the next score a 45m kick off the ground. Declan King made Laraghs next score a point that involved great link play with Adrian Cooney. Donohoe again for the Laragh side made great use of the strong wind kicking over another great point from the 45m mark. Colin Mc Kenna worked hard from the kick out and carried the ball up the field linking with Paddy Rudden and ending in the hands of Adrian Cooney who hit a fantastic shot into the bottom corner Corlough goalie Shane MC Govern done extremely well to knock the ball over the line, ending in a 50m kick put over again by the capable Conal Donohoe. Adrian Cooney and Declan King took Laraghs next two scores both working extremely hard on either wing. Laragh eventually found the back of the net in the 25th minute a ball overturned in the Laragh full back line carried forward by Gerry Murray and Conal Donohoe who fisted a pass into a sneaky Ruairí Power whom in a one on one with Corloughs Shane McGovern hit the top corner of the net. The last two points of the half came from an on fire Donohoe and a ball won and knocked over by Colin Mc Kenna from the kick out.
The half ended with a score Laragh 1-11 to Corlough 0-00.The second half opened the way the first ended with a Laragh score this time a free kick taken well by Paddy Rudden. However it was all to be a one sided affair Corlough got off the mark in the third minute of the second half getting their first sore from a free kick knocked over by half forward Kieran Dolan. Corlough continued to keep position and with the wind this half they used its advantage and some great play between Damien Mc Govern and Kieran Dolan ended with a high score over the bar from the half forward Martin Cassidy. Corlough again working from midfield to win the ball, a high ball was kicked in by Derek Kelleher ended in the hands of full forward Micheal Dolan who earned his first point of the game. However that was to be the end of Corloughs shots on target. Corlough used what seemed like a blanket defence tactic in the second half bringing players back and they worked hard throughout the rest of the game to keep the Laragh side out of scoring range with the strong wind also aiding in playing as an extra defender. Both sides introduced a series of new players into the mix through the second half however the strong wind and Corloughs defence tactic didn’t lead to any very entertaining play.
The final score being Laragh 1-12 to Corlough 0-03.
