Laragh United Give Strong Performance

Laragh pit their first forward in the division 2 league on Sunday last when after an impressive performance from a very unified team came away with a two point reward. Laragh were first of the mark with well won points from both Adrian Cooney and Paddy Redden. Cornafeans Ciaran Duignan opened the score board for his side after a hard fight to kick a great point from the left.  Laraghs midfield made a big impression on the game winning the ball from the kickouts and making some hard and decisive tackles which gave way to two further points from Ruirai Power and half back Sheamus Cooney.  Cornafean worked hard under pressure with half back Cormac Geogehegan showing great leadership putting in some great tackles and this gave way to two points for his side coming of Val Sheridan and a free well taken by half forward Paul Brady. Laragh at this stage really took control of the game and corner forward  Conal Donohoe barley got the ball in his hand before he stuck it over the bar after great work by both Sheamus Cooney and Paddy Rudden. Laragh kept the ball in the Cornafean half and placed them under serious pressure to keep the ball out of the danger zone however a high ball kicked in by Declan Brady was deflected out by Cornafean goalie Andrew Smith to his horror found sneaky Laragh full forward Gerry Murray who blasted it through the corner of the net.  Building on from this again Laragh midfielder Declan Brady winning the ball at midfield hit half back Colin Mc Kenna running through who kicked a great point from 30m out. Cornafean still kept plugging away getting into the Laragh half and a great move by Gordon Morrow which saw him beat past two Laragh defenders to hit the back of the net ended the first half with a score of 1-08 to 1-03.

The first play of the second half saw Laragh midfielder Declan Brady who had a fantastic game win the ball in the throw up link up with Cian O Rourke who carried forward to hit a smashing point for the Laragh side. Last year’s junior player of the year Paddy Rudden not wanting to be outdone hit over the next point for the Laragh side his second score in the game. Cornafeans midfielder Cathal Sheridan won the ball in his own half back line carried it forward and shot over  a great point from some 35m out.  The next few minutes saw both sides fight for pocession with some great tackles and attacks with the ball being played in both ends of the field with no rewards until the always reliable Laragh half back Declan King won the ball in a tackle carried forward passed to Paddy Rudden who found Ruirai Power who shot to hit the back of the Cornafean net. Cornafean responded with two points the first a well taken free by half forward Paul Brady the second a great point well taken by the centre half Cian Geoghegan who won the ball at midfield carried the ball forward and kicked over the bar without breaking his stride.  Again the game went through a phase of tooing and froing between the two sides until the strong pairing at midfield of Colin Oats and Declan Brady worked a great point between them, Brady won the ball in the kickout and immediately linked with Oats sprinted forward and took the ball back to kick high over the bar.  Cornafeans  corner forward Adrian Mc Caffrey got what was to be their last score of the game a well taken point kicked from a difficult angle. The Laragh side however were not done yet when after some competitive play again at both ends of the field the ball was kicked into the Laragh full forward line who linked between them to hold the ball until Laraghs half back Declan King came running through taking the ball and blasting it into the back of the net for a massive finish. The final score of the game came again from what was a great performance from Laraghs midfielder Declan Brady who kicked the ball high over the bar from 30m out. Both sides continued to fight until the final whistle however it was Laraghs day and came away with a final score of 3-12 to 1-07 a great result for the home side.
