Laragh v CornafeanU14 Division 2 League Final

Congratulations and well done to the Under 14 side and their management on their fantastic victory against Cornafean on Thursday evening and being crowned Division 2 League Champions they done themselves their families and their club proud. The lads played with complete determination and passion throughout the game and ended with a final score of 8-14 to 1-06. The Laragh lads were dominant throughout the game however the Cornafean side put up a good fight and never gave up even as the score difference widened, both teams fought through heavy rain and a muddy pitch and give a very entertaining game. The first half saw goals from Jack Mc Kenna and Mark Brady. Eoghan Cooney and Patrick Cahill worked extremely hard at midfield and covered every inch of the pitch. Dominic Gillick played fantastic in goals his calling and safe hands kept the ball out of the net on a number of occasions. The first half also saw some great performances from Pauric O Reilly, Adrian Lackey and Ciaran O Grady. The half time score ended at 2-06 to 1-04 in favour of the Laragh side.
The second half seen a change of dry jerseys and a more lively Cornafean side emerge however the Laragh lads never lost their cool, defended well working the ball up the field a quick ball played into the hands of Nial Fitzpatrick (Fitzy) ended with a class finish in the back of the net. This was followed with another great shot finishing the back of the Cornafean net by Barry Davies. Padraig O Reilly tapped the next score over the bar after some great defending by Gavin Brady. Mark Brady took the next score another goal after carrying it bravely through the Cornafean defence he deserved the reward.
Cornafeans defence finding themselves under pressure started fouling the Laragh forwards running through, however the crafty right foot of Jack Mc Kenna punished them for their actions by kicking two frees in a row of the ground taking advantage of this new rule and converted them into four points for his side. Laraghs next score was one to be proud of a long ball kicked in over the top from midfielder Patrick Cahill to a sprinting Eoghan Cooney who caught and kicked with speed and precision ended in the back of the net. Eoghan Cooney who had a great game was all over the field kicked in the next ball to Barry Davies who fought of some tough tackling to find the back of the net. Barry was not done yet and kicked over the next point from thirty metres out in a great display of accuracy. However the forwards cannot take all the credit Cornafean made some great attacks but great tackling from Shane Smith, Adrian Lackey, Ciaran O Grady and Max O Dea denied any advance.  Paul Smith kept rule at full back, as did Gavin Brady in the half back line. Lee Reilly made some great runs on the left wing and tackled back when the ball was in his half. The game ended with points from Pauric O Reilly supersub Jamie Cooney and a goal from the captain Eoghan Cooney to leave a final score of 8-14 to 1-06.
