Laragh Utd Club Notes 04/03/2012

posted 4 Mar 2012, 13:28 by Unknown user

The seniors started of their division 3 league campaign last week with an excellent victory over Kildallan in Ballyconnel on Sunday last. Both sides fought hard but Laragh took the lead and maintained it from the start with a full time score of 1-07 to 6 points. Even after the bad spell of weather the pitch conditions in Kildallan were in good order and let the game flow. Laragh got off to a great start with a point in the opening minute and continued to score 1-03 unanswered before Kildallan converted a free, the half time score being 1-04 to 4 points. The second half proved a tighter match playing against the wind with the Laragh back line having to work hard to keep out the Kildallan attack. The lads worked hard and will be happy with the result, as will the management with this being our opening performance of the year. Training continues Tuesday and Friday nights at 8:00pm with no league games in the coming weeks due to Cavan being out in the National League.

Senior Team Captain

Congratulations to Paddy King on his appointment as senior team captain and to Paddy Rudden as Vice Captain for the 2012 season. It’s well deserved, and we wish them great success and best of luck for the year ahead.

Our minors were out on Sunday last against Bailieboro but were disappointed not to get the win, however there will be no time to dwell on the result with the action continuing this week when they take on St. Killians at 8:30pm on the 3G pitch in Breffini and are out again on Sunday next when they take on Denn in Stradone at 2:00pm so a busy week ahead for the lads.

Under 16 training continues Wednesday nights at 7:30pm.  Our first game is down for Thursday 22nd March against St Killians. Our first challenge match of the season took place Monday night last against Kingscourt away it proved to be a good chance for the lads to have a run out.

Our Under 14’s started training last Thursday night with the league starting in the beginning of April with the first match against Lavey it will be important to get off to a flying start. Training times this week have yet to be confirmed.

Our under 12 side had a disappointing defeat to Knockbride in their last outing. The lads play Kingscourt on Saturday 10th venue and time have yet to be confirmed, training continues Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6.00pm.
